A few years ago, I had the opportunity to attend a Blue Angels Air Show in Washington DC.   It was one of the most magnificent event I ever attended, just the experience of having the Blue Angels flying over your head, it was totally AWESOME!

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be here in New England this weekend (August 28-29, 2010) for the Boston Portsmouth Air Show.  (Ticket is around $20-25 for adult).  If you are around this weekend, this is definitely worth checking out.  Bring your camera!

Here are a few photos I took from the DC Air Show couple years ago.  You can see more on my Flickr page.

July 4th Firework at Marblehead, MA

To avoid the crowd in Boston on July 4th, I decided to go watch the firework outside of Boston.   It would be ideal to check out a coastal town for firework, since it was so hot out.

After some research, I found out that Marblehead Firework (40 mins North of Boston) would be a pretty good place to hang out, (at least according to Coastal Town Living - Marblehead is a one of the top 10 spots to celebrate the 4th.)  Who knew!?

We decided to park and settle at Riverhead Beach (far end of the Marblehead Harbor, based on the recommendation from the website for best viewing and easy parking.)  It was probably the best advice, there was additional parking at Devereux Beach parking lot directly across the street, with a restaurant to grab some food, drinks and ICE CREAM !!  We drove around to check out the other viewing spots, there was absolutely no parking at the those areas.  So Riverhead Beach is your best bet.  And it wasn't super crowded, you could get there and still find a seat around 8:30pm for the 9pm firework.

We could see the both sides of the Harbor Illumination (red lights along the harbor), which started right before the firework.  The firework was right at the middle viewing point of Riverhead Beach, behind all the sailboats in the water.   Marblehead Firework is a great spot for July 4th, can't wait to go back next year, what a great find!

Here are few photos of the firework, hope you enjoy them!  You can click on the thumbnails to view the larger size photos.

Boston Marathon - Volunteer Experience

On Monday, I volunteered at the 114th Boston Marathon. I think we had some great weather compared to the past years.  Congrats to all the great runners, organizers and volunteers that make this a smooth event.

It was my 6th year helping out this great event, I first volunteered back in 2005 with one of my good friends.  We were assigned at the water/Gatorade station in Wellesley (Mile 12).    Since then, we have done other volunteer positions (Mylar blankets and Food Distribution).  We were at the medal distribution section this Monday!  It was AWESOME!!!  I love the fact that we got to see all the runners after they crossed the finish line, hugging us and giving us high-fives.

The best part: we got my mom and few other friends to come along with us.  I hope to make this a bigger volunteer group next year!  What task should we do next year??

If you are interested to volunteer next year, please check the Boston Athletic Association - Boston Marathon's Volunteer page: http://www.baa.org/Volunteering/BostonMarathonVolunteer.asp . Sign up early, the deadline is around mid-February each year.

Check out a few behind-the-scene photos from a volunteer's view.  Enjoy!

The police and fire department arrived almost immediately and the fire was put out in about 10 minutes.
